Don't Let the Feminists and Cloners Lead Your Members Astray
Contact Your Senators During the Recess

ALERT Through June 3, Members of Congress will be back in their districts for the Memorial Day recess. During this time, please use this district work period to lobby your Members on the following issues.

CEDAW Achieves Feminist Goals
In June, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee will have a hearing on the United Nations Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW - pronounced see-daw). The CEDAW treaty was signed by President Jimmy Carter in 1980, but the Senate has never ratified it. Sens. Barbara Boxer and Hillary Clinton are trying to resurrect CEDAW, paint conservatives as anti-woman, and force ratification.

Ratification of CEDAW would be craven kowtowing to the radical feminists, exceeded only by the treaty's unlimited capacity for legal mischief. It would be a massive interference with U.S. laws as well as with our federal-state balance of powers. Comparable worth, redefining social and cultural norms, revising textbooks according to feminist ideology, and pro-abortion feminist jargon are only a sample of the problems with the treaty. CEDAW would clearly diminish the rights and benefits American women now enjoy, as well as give extraordinary powers over U.S. laws to busybody global bureaucrats.

Please phone President Bush! ACTION ITEMS:
Call President Bush and tell him to unsign CEDAW. Comment Line (202) 456-1111
E-mail Sec. of State Powell and urge him to say NO to CEDAW. [email protected]
Urge your Senators to Reject CEDAW. Reaching Members on the Foreign Relations Committee is especially important. (Allen, Biden, Boxer, Brownback, Chafee, Dodd, Enzi, Feingold, Frist, Hagel, Helms, Kerry, Lugar, Bill Nelson, Rockefeller, Sarbanes, Gordon Smith, Torricelli, Wellstone)

Daschle Postpones Cloning Ban Vote . . . Again
Last July, the House passed a complete ban on human cloning, but Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle has delayed Senate action until this summer. Researchers are moving rapidly while the ban languishes in Congress. In fact, on April 3, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office issued the first patent for reproductive human cloning to the University of Missouri. Furthermore, the Justice Department testified recently that permitting cloning for experimentation is unenforceable; only a complete human cloning ban will work. President Bush is ready to sign Sen. Brownback's Human Cloning Prohibition Act of 2001 (S. 1899), which will ban human cloning for all purposes.

Please phone your Senators!ACTION ITEMS:
Urge your Senators to support S. 1899, the only true human cloning ban.
Reaching the following Members is especially important: Baucus, Breaux, Byrd, Campbell, Carnahan, Cleland, Cochran, Collins, Conrad, Dayton, Domenici, Dodd, Dorgan, Hatch, Hollings, Hutchison, Johnson, Lugar, Roberts, Snowe, Thurmond.
