STOP SPECTER'S ANTICS  Urge Senate Republicans NOT to elect Specter Judiciary Committee Chairman   Printer Friendly version   E-mail to a Friend After conservatives won a sweeping victory in races nationwide, including re-electing President Bush, Senator Arlen Specter had the audacity to tell President Bush that he would not support pro-life Supreme Court nominees. Senator Specter is next in line to become the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, which holds hearings on all federal court nominees, as well as other important family issues such as abortion and cloning. "When you talk about judges who would change the right of a woman to choose, overturn Roe v. Wade, I think that is unlikely. And I have said that bluntly during the course of the campaign and before. . . . That is my view, now, before, and always."   — Senator Arlen Specter   November 3, 2004 Senator Specter's comments are outrageous. By applying a litmus test to judicial nominees, he has disqualified himself for the chairmanship of one of the most powerful committees in the Senate. Moreover, Sen. Specter owes his political career to President Bush who stumped for him in his tight primary race, leading to his re-election. This is the man who killed the nomination of Robert Bork and Jeff Sessions. This is the man who receives praise from pro-abortion and pro-homosexual radicals. He cannot be trusted to stand up for the values that are held by the majority of Americans who went to the polls this week. WE MUST ACT! His election as chairman is not a done deal. Members of the Judiciary Committee and the Senate Republican Conference have to vote on electing a chairman. We must let all Republican senators know that a vote for Sen. Specter is unacceptable. TAKE ACTION! Call Senate Judiciary Members! Tell them to vote against Sen. Arlen Specter as Judiciary Committee Chairman. Target List: Frist (TN), Chambliss (GA), Craig (ID), Cornyn (TX), Graham (SC), Grassley (IA), Kyl (AZ), DeWine (OH), Sessions (AL) Call Senator Rick Santorum, Chairman of the Senate Republican Conference!
