Calls Needed in Support of Amendments Denying Social Security and
In-state Tuition to Illegal Aliens
Your calls are needed immediately to generate support for two amendments expected to
come to the floor this week to deny in-state tuition and Social Security
benefits to illegal aliens.
Please call your representative right away and urge a yes
vote on the King Amendment to deny in-state tuition to illegal aliens and the
Hayworth Amendment to prevent Social Security benefits from being paid to
illegal aliens from Mexico.
Find your representative's phone number here or call the Capitol switchboard (202) 225-3121 and
ask to be connected.
AMENDMENT DETAILS:The following amendments are expected to
be offered to the Department of Labor, Health and Human Services, Education and
Related Agencies Agencies Appropriations Act for Fiscal Year 2006. The House is
scheduled to begin consideration of this bill today (Thursday, June
23).
- King Amendment to Deny In-State Tuition to Illegal
Aliens - Rep. Steve King (R-IA) is planning to offer an amendment that would
prohibit any Labor/HHS funds from being used in contravention of federal law
prohibiting states from offering illegal aliens taxpayer-funded in-state
tuition, unless the state also provides Americans from other states the same
benefit.
- Hayworth Amendment to Deny Social Security to Illegal
Aliens - Rep. J.D. Hayworth (R-AZ) is planning to offer an amendment that
would effectively prevent the currently pending U.S./Mexico Social Security
totalization agreement from going into effect. This agreement, which is signed
by both countries but has not yet been presented to Congress for disapproval,
threatens to drain the U.S. Social Security system by allowing Mexicans who have
worked in America (both legally and illegally) to qualify for U.S. Social
Security retirement benefits. Specifically, this amendment prohibits any funds
appropriated by the bill from being used to administer benefits that would only
be payable due to the totalization agreement with Mexico. The potential for
fraud and the looming amnesty threat could mean millions of illegal aliens from
Mexico could qualify for Social Security under this agreement.
SAMPLE MESSAGE:"I'm calling to urge the representative to vote in favor of the King Amendment to the Labor/HHS
appropriations bill to deny in-state tuition to illegal aliens. I'm also calling
to ask the representative to vote in favor of the Hayworth Amendment to prevent
Social Security benefits from being paid to illegal aliens from Mexico."
