Pro-Family Victories Congress Goes on Vacation with Some Big Wins! By the end of this week, both the House and Senate will be adjourned for the long August recess. Members will be returning to their home districts, where you have the opportunity to let them know how important pro-family issues are to you. Several important pro-family bills have been signed into law during this congress. Pro-Family Bills Signed Into Law Broadcast Decency Enforcement Act — Signed into law 6/15/06 — increases fines for indecency violations to up to $325,000. Fetal Farming Prohibition Act — Signed into law 7/19/06 — Prohibits "farming" of human fetuses for research purposes. Freedom to Display the American Flag Act — Signed into law 7/24/06 — prevents condominiums or homeowners' associations from prohibiting displays of the American flag. Stem Cell Therapeutic and Research Act — Signed into law 12/20/05 — provides federal funding to increase availability of cord blood to treat patients. Cord blood is a rich, non-controversial source of stem cells that can be matched to patients and have already been used to treat at least 72 diseases. Children's Safety and Violent Crime Reduction Act — Signed into law 7/27/06 — reforms sex offender registration laws and strengthens laws preventing child pornography. As we celebrate these important victories, we must also let Members of Congress know we expect them to do much more to protect our families and communities. While your Member of Congress and Senators are home, be sure to let them know some of your concerns, especially Eagle Forum's priority legislation listed below. Pro-Family Priority Bills Pledge Protection Act (H.R. 2389 / S. 1046) — passed by House, Senate needs to vote on it-removes jurisdiction of federal courts on the Pledge of Allegiance. Child Custody Protection Act (H.R. 748 / S. 403) — passed by House and Senate, need conference agreement-prohibits transportation of minor girl across state lines for an abortion to circumvent parental notification or consent laws. Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (H.R. 4411) — passed by House, Senate needs to schedule vote-Provides tools to law enforcement to enforce the ban on internet gambling. Take Action Visit your Representative and Senators' district offices. Let them know you expect them to vote on the Pro-Family Priority Bills listed above.
