| UPDATE: On January 11, the House passed the Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act of 2007 by a vote of 174-253 (Roll Call 20). Although it passed, the vote fell short of the required two-thirds to overturn President Bush's promised veto. This bill will most likely come up in the Senate for a vote later this month. | |||||

Democrats Take First Shot at Destroying Embryos
Tell your Representatives to vote AGAINST federal funding for Embryonic Stem Cell Research! The New Members of the 110th Congress have just been sworn in and Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi's liberal "100 Hours" legislative agenda is already upon us! She has made it no secret that one of her top priorities will be promoting embryonic stem cell research. Within the first few hours of the session, House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD-5th) announced that next week, on January 11, 2007, the House will vote on a bill to expand federal taxpayer funding for research that destroys human embryos. The House Democrats are adamant on getting such legislation passed because they failed to override President Bush's veto of a similar bill, H.R. 810, during the 109th Congress. Sponsored in the House by Reps. Diana DeGette (D-CO) and Michael Castle (R-DE), the Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act of 2007, H.R. 3, would overturn President Bush's policy and allow your taxpayer dollars to pay for the killing of human embryos. Proponents falsely claim that such research is "enormously promising" and that it will "unlock the doors to treatments and cures." In fact, embryonic stem cells have yielded absolutely NO successes in patients. However, non-embryonic alternatives have flourished, successfully treating over 70 diseases and syndromes on human patients. Taxpayers are already paying for research that many Americans find to be morally wrong. We need your help in stopping this dangerous piece of legislation that will further promote using embryos at the expense of human life! Call your Representatives today!
