Tell President Bush and your Senators to Enforce Current Law!!

After hearing loud and clear that you do not support the Kyl-Kennedy Amnesty, Senators are back in Washington, but many seem to be ignoring you! Since returning to Washington, Senator Jon Kyl (R-AZ) says that opposition to the Senate bill has "receded" (Washington Post 6/4/07). We have checked with our contacts in Arizona and they assure us that is absolutely not the case! Do you think there is less opposition in your community to the proposed Senate amnesty? Make sure you pick up the phone and call your Senators and let them know you are as strongly opposed to this bill as ever!

Many Senators and Bush administration officials who support the Kyl-Kennedy amnesty are now using the words “silent amnesty” to describe the current state of illegal immigration. We agree with them—President Bush has put us in a state of silent amnesty for the past six years! Yes, Mr. President, stop the silent amnesty—enforce our current laws! The silent amnesty has been building since the 1986 amnesty because no one actually enforced the law. Now, they expect us to be fooled again. Not so fast, folks.

The way to solve the problem of illegal immigration is to start enforcing the law—this is a pro-active step, not “doing nothing” as Senators Kyl and McCain and Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff have claimed. If they are serious about ending the current state of “silent amnesty,” they have all the necessary tools at their disposal—fine employers, immediately deport all criminal aliens, and build all 700 miles of the border fence.

Then, they should check back with the American people in five years with clear results of shrinking the illegal population, and then we can talk about any next steps. But for now, we call on you, Senators, Congressmen, and President Bush to end the silent amnesty and the Kyl-Kennedy amnesty by enforcing the current law!

Update on Pending Amendments:

  • Cornyn Amendment—denies any chance at legal status to gang members, terrorists, sex offenders, and alien absconders (those already under deportation orders).
