Thank Senators who voted NO on cloture!!

After more than a month of intense debate, the United States Senate voted 46-53 to kill the Kyl-Kennedy Amnesty bill once and for all (Roll Call 235). The cloture motion, which needed 60 votes to pass, fell 14 votes shy, and instead, 18 Senators switched their vote from Tuesday’s previous cloture motion. Without the activism of Eagle Forum members nationwide, we could not have won! Your calls, faxes, and local events were instrumental in getting the message across—we reject amnesty, period!

We also owe talk radio and the bloggers a huge thank you. Thanks to the never say die spirit of conservative radio hosts across America, the American people were kept informed and motivated to keep up the pressure.

Another big thank you goes to Senators Jeff Sessions (R-AL), David Vitter (R-LA), and Jim DeMint (R-SC). This “Hero Trio” stood in the gap for the American people. They spent hours on the floor educating fellow senators about the flaws of the bill and would not yield in the face of back door arm-twisting and slick procedural maneuvers. Finally, we thank the 53 Senators who, as President Bush himself has said, took the “political courage” to do “what’s right for America.” Though the President thought courage was a one-way street, these Senators proved him wrong. They made the right decision. We owe them calls and faxes thanking them for listening to the will of the people.

Senators voting NO on cloture (against the amnesty): Alexander, Allard, Barrasso, Baucus, Bayh, Bingman, Bond, Brown, Brownback, Bunning, Burr, Byrd, Chambliss, Coburn, Cochran, Coleman, Collins, Corker, Cornyn, Crapo, DeMint, Dole, Domenici, Dorgan, Ensign, Enzi, Grassley, Harkin, Hatch, Hutchison, Inhofe, Isakson, Landrieu, McCaskill, McConnell, Murkowski, Nelson (NE), Pryor, Roberts, Rockefeller, Sanders, Sessions, Shelby, Smith, Stabenow, Stevens, Sununu, Tester, Thune, Vitter, Voinovich, Warner, Webb

Now, we continue to push on for enforcement of our current immigration laws. We hope that all the increased focus on immigration will lead to increased workplace enforcement and the completion of the border fence. It’s time to keep moving forward! Great work Eagle Forum members!
