NEA Lobbying Instructions, June 1996
  1. The message to Members of Congress should be: Oppose any legislation that would allow the use of public funds for tuition vouchers at private or parochial schools.

  2. The message to Members of Congress is: Oppose Medical Savings Accounts.

  3. The message to Members of Congress is: Oppose any provision that would hurt undocumented immigrant children and require schools to enforce federal immigration policies.
    [Editor's note: This calls on NEA members to oppose any federal law that would permit the states to withhold taxpayer benefits from illegal aliens.]

  4. The message to Members of Congress is: NEA opposes legislation that would impose an official English policy.

  5. The message to Members of Congress is: Oppose legislation to put courts and the U.S. Department of Education in control of every local school decision, from curriculum to discipline policies.
    [Editor's note: This calls on NEA members to oppose the Parental Rights Act sponsored by Senator Charles Grassley (R-IA), S. 984 and Rep. Steve Largent (R-OK), H.R. 1946.]

  6. The message to Members of Congress should be: Oppose legislation to eliminate or consolidate the Department of Education.
