The Shelby County, Alabama, Board of Education severed its connection with Channel One on August 3, which means that the county's middle and high school students will no longer be viewing the network's daily 12-minute "news" shows during class. The programming includes two minutes of commercial advertising for everything from designer jeans and sneakers to movies, fast food and soft drinks.
The board's decision resulted from the discovery of a link to a homosexual chat room on Channel One's Internet web site, which it promotes during its daily telecasts.
