Melissa Scharfenberg can now bring her new Bible to lunch at Wilbur Trimpe Middle School in Bethalto, Illinois, because her mother stood up and challenged the school. Principal Cindy Blasa had forbidden Melissa to read her Bible in the lunchroom because of an "unwritten rule to not bring any items into the lunchroom." The school's staff said that it was looking out for safety of Melissa's Bible. Melissa's mother Wendy, said she was "kind of shocked" at the school's decision, so she took her complaint to the school board. On Nov. 28, the Bethalto School Board overruled the school and allowed Melissa to read her Bible during lunch.
