Reagan's War, Peter Schweizer
|
| Winning the Cold War was the work of many people over many years, but if one person above all others has to be singled out, it would certainly be President Ronald Reagan. A new book called Reagan's War by Peter Schweizer of the Hoover Institution proves the truth of that statement. The author's conclusion is based on extensive research in newly-opened archives in Eastern Europe and Reagan's own files.
Ronald Reagan's anti-Communism was a consistent theme from the time he helped root Communists out of the Screen Actors Guild in the 1940s to the collapse of the Eastern European satellites in the early 1990s. While others accommodated Communism and tried to compromise with the Soviets, Reagan remained absolutely committed to his long-term goal of winning the Cold War, not merely surviving it or containing it. As early as the 1940s, Reagan had formulated his belief that the Soviet system could not match the United States in a technological race between free men and serfs. He had the optimistic view that freedom would eventually triumph over tyranny.
Reagan watched with increasing dismay as the Soviets built up their military machine. Presidents Nixon and Ford fell under the spell of Henry Kissinger, who held a pessimistic view about America's future and Kissinger's influence led us into the policy of detente, which is French for helping the enemy build up his military with loans and trade from the United States. When Reagan became President, he changed all that. He went to Berlin to challenge Mikhail Gorbachev to "tear down this wall." Finally, in Geneva and then in Iceland, he overruled all his advisors and refused to give up his plan to build an anti-missile defense. We now know that that was the moment when Gorbachev realized the Soviets could not win against the United States, and the Soviet Empire began to collapse. It was Ronald Reagan's fortitude and courage that gave us victory in the Cold War.

Invasion: How America Still Welcomes Terrorists Criminals & Other Foreign Menaces to Our Shores, Michelle Malkin
|
| A key element in the terrible attacks on September 11, 2001 was the amazing help the 19 hijackers received from the U.S. Government. Our government still refuses to take immigration seriously as a national security issue. Our gates are open and the barbarians are streaming through them.
A new book by syndicated columnist Michelle Malkin called Invasion cuts through the media blackout about immigration with facts about what sorts of people are being welcomed to our shores. Malkin documents how murderers, rapists, and torturers have been knowingly allowed to move into our cities and towns, where they have committed heinous crimes.
There is plenty of blame to go around. Our government, pressured by ethnicity lobbyists, big business, and open-borders activists, has lost track of foreign students and visitors who overstay their visas. State Department mistakes expedited the arrival of the Los Angeles Airport gunman and letting him stay in the United States. The Immigration and Naturalization Service inspectors waved through the 9/11 terrorists, ignoring their incomplete paperwork and previous overstays.
The avenues of entry into the United States are so numerous and so unguarded that it’s a miracle more terrorists haven’t made it into the end zone. Less than 3% of cargo containers, are inspected. Universities have shown extreme hostility to any sort of oversight of foreign nationals wandering around their campuses. Requests for "political asylum" are approved with virtually no background checks. Senator Ted Kennedy sponsored the "visa lottery" program that admitted 7,000 random aliens last year from countries like Afghanistan, Yemen, Egypt and Saudi Arabia.
Michelle Malkin closes her book with a detailed agenda for cleaning up this dangerous mess. Unless we heed her warning, we will continue to be at the mercy of killers for whom our government has put out the welcome mat. The name of Michelle Malkin's important book is Invasion.

Let Freedom Ring, Sean Hannity |
| Sean Hannity, the combative conservative talk radio and cable TV host, has laid out his two-fisted philosophy in his book called Let Freedom Ring. Predictably, he pulls no punches.
Hannity is a brash New Yorker who revels in having been born and bred in the Big Apple. He loves the challenge of taking on the liberals. What’s more, he’s very good at it. Hannity’s radio show went to national syndication on September 10, 2001. The events of the following day, the famous 9/11, only strengthened his resolve to bring his patriotic message to America, and to expose the Left as unapologetic architects of a vulnerable America.
In his book, Hannity examines the record and lets the liberals speak for themselves. The results are stunning and instructive, as Hannity demonstrates just how far from mainstream values the liberals have wandered. He documents how the Clinton Administration passed up many opportunities to hit the terrorists before they hit us. As Hannity shows, the Clinton approach was the logical outcome of decades of liberal assaults on U.S. intelligence capability. In 1995, Senator Pat Moynihan introduced a bill to abolish the CIA. Two years later, presidential hopeful John Kerry tried to do the same.
Sean Hannity realizes that immigration is the front line of the battle against terrorism, and our present policies are a real threat to border security. He details how the liberals smear anyone who even suggests that there should be any limits on the free flow of aliens across our borders.
Hannity is a happy pugilist. He fights hard but fair. He knows that America is in a fight for our institutions, our culture, and our very existence against malignant forces at home and abroad. He has no doubt that America will emerge victorious. The name of Sean Hannity's his book is Let Freedom Ring.
