Eagle Forum Urges House to Pass Parental Involvement Legislation
Washington, D.C.-Eagle Forum, a leading pro-family group founded by Phyllis Schlafly, urges Congress to pass S. 403, the Child Custody Protection Act, with substituted language from the House passed bill, the Child Interstate Abortion Notification Act (CIANA). Although both bills originally passed in their respective houses, Democrat obstructionism in the Senate has prevented the legislation from going to conference and being signed into law.
"It's time for Senate Democrats to stop obstructing this common sense piece of legislation that protects minor girls from being taken over state lines to have an abortion performed on them without their parents' knowledge," said Jessica Echard, Eagle Forum Executive Director. "Eighty percent of the American people support parental involvement laws. Certainly, blocking legislation that protects the health of minor girls and ensures parental involvement will not play well in the upcoming election."
"Eagle Forum applauds the House for picking up the Senate slack and passing CIANA for the second time. Clearly, House Republicans understand the importance of protecting minor girls from ill-intentioned adults seeking to isolate young pregnant girls from their parents, who are most able to support them during such a troubling time," Echard said.
"The ball is in the Senate's court for the second time," concluded Echard. "We are counting on the Senate to send this legislation to the President before the election."
