Worldview Education for Students
During her February 7 conversation with Dr. David Noebel, the founder and President of Summit Ministries, Phyllis talked about the organization's training programs as well as Dr. Noebel's desire to increase awareness of worldviews in the Christian community as a whole.
Dr. Noebel explained that Summit puts on two-week conferences in Virginia, Colorado, and Tennessee, which are geared for students ages 16-25 and that are "spiritual, educational, academic, intellectual."
The guest explained that there are six worldviews competing for followers: Christianity, Islam, Secular Humanism, Marxism, New Age, and Postmodernism. In the West, the three most influential are Judeo-Christianity, Islam, and Secular Humanism.
Dr. Noebel defined a worldview as "a bundle of ideas, beliefs, and convictions that consist of a theology, philosophy, ethics, biology, psychology, sociology, law, economics, politics, and history." An individual can choose from the six worldviews in each area, creating his own worldview.
Both Phyllis and the guest warned that non-Christian worldviews permeate most universities, and Dr. Noebel added that there are risks at many Christian schools as well. He explained, however, that the sciences, especially engineering, seem less influenced by non-Christian viewpoints.
If you can't send your children to a conference, Summit also offers curricula for schools and churches for all age ranges — even adults. For more information about Summit Ministries, visit their website at www.summit.org or call them at 866-786-6483.
