Saving Freedom is Important!
U.S. Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC) joined Phyllis for the September 5 program to discuss his new book called Saving Freedom: Can We Stop America's Slide Into Socialism? Sen. DeMint has been called "the taxpayer's greatest ally" by the Wall Street Journal.
Phyllis asked the U.S. Senator about the trillions of dollars the government is spending. He responded that the government is printing this money, which is devaluing the U.S. currency. Even though the President promised that the stimulus would build infrastructure and grow jobs, "we've learned that what the White House says is not necessarily what happens."
The stimulus is just another example, said Sen. DeMint, of the government trying to manage our country's economy, such as the proposed health care plan. "That's not what made America great and prosperous."
Instead, there are several principles that have made America great, which have drawn immigrants from many other countries. Yet those immigrants are puzzled as to why the current administration wishes to adopt measures that failed in their own countries.
Sen. DeMint devotes a chapter of his book to describing the different socialist measures that Europe and China have adopted. Unemployment is much higher in these countries, and waiting times for health care are much longer. There are many ways to reform our health care system, but "for the government to take it over makes absolutely no sense."
