America's War on Christianity

Despite that fact the fact that at least 80% of Americans say they are Christians, a small minority opposed to Christianity continues to try to remove all traces of faith from the public square. Phyllis spoke with Brad O'Leary on December 18th about attacks on Christian holidays, free speech and more.

Mr. O'Leary gave numerous examples of anti-Christian bias: Some public schools will allow "winter parties" (not Christmas parties), but only if the kids don't wear red or green. Federal regulators recently told the president of a small bank to remove Christmas symbols and stop using holiday greetings deemed inappropriately religious. At the local government level, the city of Tulsa, Oklahoma recently changed its Christmas parade to a "winter" parade.

A listener called in to ask Mr. O'Leary if he thought persecution of Christians would increase much by the time his young grandchildren are adults. "I think that everything that is happening out there all over the country is a test for Christians to see if they are still willing to stand up and battle for their faith," replied Mr. O'Leary. He said that what happens to American children in the future is up to us, because we're on the front lines.

Mr. O'Leary believes that if Christians take the time to write letters and make calls, we can stem the tide of anti-Christian activism. He told about the city of San Diego's requirement that all pastors get a permit to hold residential Bible studies because such gatherings supposedly caused traffic problems. Because enough people protested, the city eventually dropped the requirement.
