How Obama is Robbing the Suburbs

Phyllis spoke to Stanley Kurtz on October 27th about Obama's little-known plan to redistribute America's wealth from the suburbs to the cities.

Kurtz explained that for nearly twenty years, Obama has been a huge supporter of a movement whose main goal is to have city governments swallow up and control suburban governments. The idea is to provide a way for city governments to grab hold of suburban tax money.

Obama and his community-organizer mentors blame the poverty of the cities on middle-class people moving to the suburbs and taking their tax money with them. The great American dream is to buy a house near good schools with a yard for the kids to play in, but Obama and his mentors believe people moved to suburbs because they are greedy racists who don't want to share their wealth.

Obama invited Regional Equity Movement supporters to the White House in July 2011 to discuss plans to implement their three-part strategy for undercutting the political and economic independence of suburbs.

  1. Press suburbanites to move back to the city and keep people from moving to suburbs in the first place. Tactics include making driving very expensive and blocking further development of the suburbs using zoning regulations. Often these plans are sold using the language of global warming.
  2. Move the urban poor into suburbs using subsidized housing programs. The Obama administration has already pressed the local government of Westchester County, NY to pay for low-income housing in their suburbs in the name of affirmative action, and has expressed their intention to expand this model across the country.
  3. Create regional tax base sharing arrangements whereby state legislatures force redistribution of suburban tax money to nearby cities.
