Climate Change Mania

According to many scientists and politicians, the earth is in trouble — and it's our fault. They say we've got to change our light bulbs, install solar panels, and get rid of our gas-powered cars if we want to save our planet. On May 4th Phyllis spoke with climate researcher and Executive Director of the Climate Science Coalition of America, Steve Goreham, to find out if science really supports man-made global warming.

Despite the fact that the heads of 192 of 193 nations say they believe man is causing dangerous global warming, science is more and more showing that belief is misguided, according to Goreham. The warming from 1975-2000 was the result of short-term ocean cycles which alternate between warming and cooling every 30 years or so, and we have actually been back in a cooling cycle for the past 10-15 years.

Many other things the public and school children are told about climate change are also patently false. For example, kids are being taught that polar bears are endangered, but studies show the polar bear population has increased almost threefold since the 1960s. Other facts are taken out of context to support fears of global warming. For instance, it is true that Artic ice (at the North Pole) is at a 30-year low, but only 1-2% of the Earth's ice is Arctic ice. Additionally, over the same time period, Antarctic ice (at the South Pole) is at a 30-year high. "Overall icecaps are stable and we are not likely to see a major melt anytime soon," said Goreham.

Visit the radio archives page on eagleforum.org to hear Steve debunk the global warming alarmists and respond to questions and comments from listeners. Phyllis highly recommends Steve's book, called The Mad, Mad, Mad World of Climatism, because it is full of colorful graphs, cartoons, pictures and inset quotes that make the topic easy to understand for non-scientists.
