Winning on Immigration Update

Talk of amnesty for illegal immigrants has been swirling in Washington: the verdict on 12 million illegal immigrants still hangs in the balance. In recent weeks, hoping to bolster his support among Latinos, President Obama suggested that he would expand his amnesty plan. But what are the repercussions?

And is amnesty inevitable, as some seem to think, or will the American people have the final word? In March, U.S. Congressman Steve King of Iowa joined Phyllis Schlafly in studio with the latest on the immigration debate.

Congressman King disputed the argument that there are jobs Americans will not do, citing multiple unpleasant jobs that he and thousands of other Americans have done and continue to do. He joined Phyllis in citing statistics that confirm the majority of illegal immigrants are not the hard-working entrepreneurial future citizens that they are portrayed as being. Since a sizeable number of Mexicans were not born in hospitals and do not even have Mexican birth certificates or any legal existence in their home country, it is nearly impossible to run an accurate background check on these individuals.

King related an incident in which the Obama administration announced plans to 'import' nurses from other countries, insinuating that U.S. workers could not meet the demand. "What country needs nurses less than the United States?" he wondered. "Why wouldn't we educate our own nurses? . . . There are over 100 million Americans of working age who are simply not in the workforce," King said. "We can get those people to come off of the couch and go punch the time clock."

The Congressman also called for deliberate slashes of the welfare state as it pertains to legal immigrants. The Boston bomber's family, for example, were the recipients of $100,000 in welfare benefits, and their contempt for the United States was clear.

Phyllis stressed the importance of electing a conservative Senate in 2014, to forestall Obama's continued amnesty efforts.

Congressman King represents Iowa's 4th district in the U.S. Congress, and is famously never caught without a well-worn copy of the U.S. Constitution in his coat pocket.
