The Obama-Kennedy health plan is modeled after the Massachusetts plan which, when adopted, many applauded as innovative and destined for success. In fact, the Massachusetts plan has been a massive failure and is a model for what not to do.

Barack Obama's high-speed train to Socialism was knocked off track by a surprising source: the Congressional Budget Office (CBO). Just as the Senate HELP Committee (Health, Education, Labor and Pensions) was about to begin voting on Chairman Ted Kennedy's (D-MA) health care plan (which Obama had let be known was his favorite), CBO released a report that this plan would cost at least a trillion dollars and still leave 36 million people uninsured through 2017.

Eagle Forum files amicus brief in U.S. Supreme Court defending state laws that protect children from violent video games

Eagle Forum Education & Legal Defense Fund filed an amicus brief before the U.S. Supreme Court to object to the latest form of judicial supremacy: federal courts striking down state laws that protect children from video games. The Ninth Circuit invalidated a good law that had been enacted in California to protect children against exploitation by the sale of extremely violent video games. These games are addictive, harmful, and highly destructive to many children who become hooked on them. California is not known to be conservative but these games were too much even for it. Yet the Ninth Circuit declared these shocking video games to be "free speech" even for children, without any limit on content or age. We urge the U.S. Supreme Court to grant cert. so that this good law may be reinstated.

Socialism has virtually disappeared from our national lexicon since the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) collapsed because of Ronald Reagan's policies, and the National Socialist (Nazi) Party was destroyed by the U.S. in World War II.

Barack Obama has ended the well publicized speculation concerning the identity of his first Supreme Court nominee by naming to the critical High Court seat a well publicized contender — Sonia Sotomayor. Sotomayor has been tapped to take the seat of retiring Justice David Souter. Souter, a George H.W. Bush appointment, turned sour on the Court and has been a staunch Reconstructionist — an opponent of the Constitutionalist theory necessary if our Constitution and culture are to survive and thrive. What can we expect of Sotomayor? We offer a preliminary view below. For several years, Court Watch has identified and articulated the essential characteristics of a Constitutionalist judge. This description is presented below in "A Portrait of a Constitutionalist Judge." We follow this "yardstick" with "A Portrait of Judge Sotomayor."
