JUDICIAL UPDATE:
Pickling, Poking, and a Program

LIBERALS INTENSIFY EFFORTS TO "PICKLE PICKERING" AT HIS SECOND HEARING

The Judiciary Committee's almost unprecedented second hearing for Judge Charles Pickering, Sr., designated for a seat on the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, was an exercise in, to quote from Justice Antonin Scalia, "terminal silliness." An excellent synopsis of this fiasco has been reported by John Nowacki, Deputy Director of the Judicial Selection Monitoring Project at the Free Congress Foundation. It is posted on our Court Watch web site under the title, "Pickering Under Attack at Second Hearing" and is used with his permission. Committee Democrats performed like so many puppets under the control of the radical left-wingers such as People for the American Way. There is still time for Americans who believe in constitutional government to counter this radical campaign to Pickle Pickering with our counter-attack to Promote Pickering. And now is the time for us to launch a full-fledged campaign. To do so effectively involves YOUR taking the following steps:

OBTAIN ADDITIONAL INFORMATION BY CONSULTING:

  1. our CW Alert for 1/28/02;
  2. the Nowacki article;
  3. articles on the Pickering problem in the Wall Street Journal, 2/8/02, p. A18 and the Washington Times, 2/11/02;
  4. biographical Information on Pickering at: http://www.judicialselection.org/nominees/pickering.htm ;
  5. the CW "Media Guide/Lobbying Guide" posted on our web page.

  • WRITE THE SENATE and urge its most forceful support for Pickering: be especially firm with Sens. Feinstein (CA) and Kohl (WI); but all Committee members, especially Democrats, need PHONE CALLS ASAP; information on Senate contacts is provided on the EF home page;

  • WRITE the White House, expressing your disappointment with their failure to even mention the critical judicial problem in Bush's State of the Union address, and urging Bush to "come out of the closet" and "start swinging" in defense of Pickering and his other top nominees;

  • GO PUBLIC WITH OUR BATTLE: use the information we are providing you for letters to the editor and press releases; MUCH OF THIS WAR IS BEING FOUGHT IN THE PRESS, AND YOU ARE STRATEGICALLY POSITIONED TO PRESENT THE CONSTITUTIONALIST POSITON EFFECTIVELY; to help you, consult our CW "Media/Lobbying Guide" posted on our web page.
